Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a 33 percent increase in gas prices for new industrial units and captive power plants, with the new rates coming into effect from April 13 (Sunday).
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jalal Ahmed announced the new rates at a press conference at the commission's office today in the capital.
Under the revised pricing structure, industrial consumers will now be charged Tk 40 per cubic metre of gas, up from Tk 30. Captive power producers—those generating electricity for their own use—will pay Tk 42 per cubic metre, compared to the previous rate of Tk 30.75.
Moreover, those who have received primary approval for new connections will have to pay 50 percent of their bills at the existing rate for their sanctioned load, and the remaining at the new rate.
Despite the increase for these categories, BERC confirmed that gas tariffs for all other consumers, including households, will remain unchanged.
