The interim government has announced plans to recruit 2,000 new doctors through a special Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination, aiming to address the country's ongoing shortage of medical professionals.

Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum disclosed the initiative during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with the Ministry of Railways.

The agreement will allow the general public to access healthcare services at railway hospitals, which were previously reserved for railway staff only.

“There is a severe shortage of doctors in our country. To tackle this crisis, we plan to recruit 2,000 fresh doctors through a special BCS exam before October this year,” said Adviser Nurjahan.

Railways Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, also present at the event, emphasized that expanding access to railway hospitals is a key step toward more inclusive healthcare.

"Until now, only railway staff were eligible to receive treatment at these hospitals. Under the new arrangement, the general public will also be able to avail medical services,” he said, adding that full implementation of the MoU would take some time.
