Footballer Morsalin divorces wife; dowry case withdrawn

Published : Wednesday, 23 April, 2025 at 5:42 PM

Bangladesh national football team player Sheikh Morsalin has settled a dowry case filed by his wife, Senjuti Binte Sohel, following their separation.

The case, which alleged a demand for dowry to purchase a car, was formally withdrawn in court on Wednesday (April 23).

Senjuti filed a petition before Dhaka’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Mohammad Saleh, stating that both parties had reached an amicable settlement.

The court accepted the application and dismissed the case.

Senjuti’s lawyer, Ishfaquar Rahman Galib, told reporters that the issue was resolved through arbitration at the request of both parties.

“Morsalin is a national football star. Both sides agreed to settle the matter privately, which led to the withdrawal of the case today,” he said.

According to the settlement, Morsalin paid Senjuti Tk 6 lakh in cash out of agreed Tk 8 lakh dower. The remaining Tk 2 lakh will be paid via cheque by July 31, as mentioned in the settlement agreement.

The case was initially filed on February 26, accusing Morsalin of demanding Tk 20 lakh as dowry shortly after their wedding on November 29, 2023.

Senjuti claimed that on December 10, Morsalin came to her father’s home in Savar and insisted he was there not to dine, but to collect the dowry money. When her family refused, Morsalin allegedly hurled abuse and issued threats.
