The Supreme Court's Appellate Division on Wednesday acquitted BNP leader Amanullah Aman, scrapping his 13-year prison sentence in a case filed over illegal wealth accumulation and concealing information in his wealth statement.

The court also acquitted his wife Sabera Aman.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, issued this order.

Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon stated that both Amanullah Aman and his wife were acquitted in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court granted their appeals and scrapped the previous verdict of the High Court.

Now, there is no legal bar for Aman to contest elections in future, he added.
