A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck India’s Manipur state early Tuesday, with tremors felt in Dhaka and various parts of Bangladesh.

However, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.

The quake was felt at approximately 2:24 AM Bangladesh time, originating near Moirang in Manipur, about 39 kilometers (24 miles) from Imphal.

According to Volcano Discovery, a global seismic activity monitoring platform, the earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 47 kilometers (29 miles), intensifying its impact across a wide area, including the northeastern regions of Bangladesh and the capital, Dhaka.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Centre, citing the United States Geological Survey (USGS), confirmed the quake's epicenter was located at 24.49°N latitude and 93.7816°E longitude, approximately 354 kilometers from Dhaka.

Experts noted that due to the shallow depth of the epicenter, the tremor was more strongly felt on the surface compared to deeper quakes of similar magnitude.

Residents in Dhaka, Sylhet, and neighboring districts reported light shaking, but there have been no verified reports of injuries or structural damage. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
