Heavy rainfall boosts power generation at Kaptai plant

KAPTAI, RANGAMATI, June 2:  Continuous rainfall in recent times has significantly increased the water level in the Kaptai Lake, leading to a surge in electricity generation at the Kaptai-Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant, the country's sole hydropower facility.

The plant's manager Mahmud Hasan announced at 10am on Monday that persistent rainfall this past week has enabled four out of the five units to generate 155 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

He further stated that the remaining unit will also be brought on line once the water level in the Kaptai Lake rises sufficiently.
