Dengue death toll rises to 41; 262 new cases reported

Bangladesh recorded another dengue-related death in 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning, pushing this year’s fatality count to 41, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Over the same period, 262 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, bringing the total number of infections in 2025 to 9,484.

Health officials continue to grapple with the seasonal surge of the mosquito-borne virus. Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives in Bangladesh. The situation was even more severe in 2023, which remains the deadliest year on record, with 1,705 fatalities.

DGHS data shows that in 2023 the country reported 321,179 dengue cases, with 318,749 patients recovering.

Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and take preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue, especially as the monsoon season — typically the peak period for outbreaks — progresses.
