Amid ongoing chaos, internal power struggles, and growing calls for democratization, the Golam Mohammad Quader-led Jatiya Party (JP) held a protest rally and an emergency Presidium meeting on Saturday, June 28.

These developments followed GM Quader's sudden postponement of the party's 10th council, originally scheduled for June 28 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. The decision, announced on June 16, triggered backlash from a faction of senior leaders-including Co-Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud and veteran leader Ruhul Amin Howlader-who labeled Quader autocratic and declared a "counter-council" to be held in front of the party's Kakrail headquarters on the original date. This dissent marks the party's seventh major internal rift since its inception. The reformist faction also announced a new panel, naming Anisul Islam Mahmud as Chairman and Ruhul Amin Howlader as Secretary General.
