The Bangladesh government has declared all categories of services under the National Board of Revenue (NBR), including customs houses, ICDs, bond commissionerates, and customs stations, as “essential services” to ensure uninterrupted revenue collection and maintain financial stability.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment issued a gazette notification on Monday, stating that the decision was taken in the public interest to meet revenue targets and strengthen the country’s financial management.

According to the notification, the government considers all jobs under the NBR’s customs houses, inland container depots (ICDs), bond commissionerates, and customs stations critical for achieving its revenue collection objectives.

Exercising powers granted under the Essential Services (Second) Ordinance of 1958, the government formally declared these roles as essential services. This move effectively limits the scope for strikes or work stoppages in these sectors, ensuring the continuous operation of revenue-related activities.

Officials said the measure underscores the government’s commitment to securing state finances by keeping customs and related operations running smoothly. The announcement comes at a time when the country is focusing on maximizing revenue to support economic priorities.
