Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convenor Nahid Islam has declared that his party will go to every corner of Bangladesh to ensure the realization of the July Declaration and Charter, warning against any delays or evasions.
Speaking on Tuesday in Rangpur's Pirganj upazila, after paying honors at the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed on the first anniversary of July Uprising, Nahid Islam said, “There will be no tolerance for stalling on the July Declaration. Those who think the hundreds of thousands who took to the streets have gone back home are mistaken. We will go to every village and town, rally students, youth, and workers, and secure the July Declaration and Charter, inshAllah.”
As the chief proponent of the one-point July Uprising, Nahid emphasized the need for justice, reforms, and a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution to build what he described as a “new Bangladesh.”
He added, “Abu Sayeed stood firm before police bullets, and that courage inspires us. We will tell people why he was martyred. We will raise their heads high again.”
The NCP on Tuesday formally launched its “July March to Build the Nation” campaign from Rangpur, starting with Abu Sayeed’s grave. NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain said, “With thousands of lives and sacrifices, we earned a new Bangladesh. Now we must dismantle the old structure and implement foundational reforms.”
Nahid also called for justice against those who committed crimes against humanity, and for scrapping the old Mujib-era constitution in favor of a new one through a constituent assembly election. “Only then,” he said, “can we truly rebuild Bangladesh.”
The program was attended by top NCP leaders, including chief organizers for the south and north, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, as well as senior coordinators and joint secretaries.
Earlier, at the grave, Abu Sayeed’s tearful parents offered prayers, placing their hands on Nahid Islam’s head in blessing. Many present could not hold back tears, vowing to carry forward Abu Sayeed’s dream of a new Bangladesh.
The NCP plans to continue its campaign with street meetings and marches in Gaibandha later in the day, followed by rallies across Rangpur city, culminating in a gathering at Town Hall.
