BNP has taken action against 5,000 party activists for misdeeds: Rizvi

Published : Saturday, 5 July, 2025 at 12:00 AM
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday said that no one will be spared if they commit terrorist acts or behave badly in the name of the BNP.

He said that since August 5, 2024 action has been taken against 4,000 to 5,000 BNP leaders and activists for different kinds of misdeeds.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan central office in the capital, Rizvi said, "We clearly want to say that anyone who commits anything immoral, illegal, terrorist or violent acts in the name of the party will not be spared."

He said that BNP is taking action as soon as it receives any news about incidents happening in the country.

"Already, 4,000 to 5,000 leaders and activists from different BNP-related organizations have faced action. They were found to be working with criminal gangs or doing immoral activities using the party's name," Rizvi said.

He added that BNP and its leaders are strict about this issue and that Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has a policy of 'absolute zero tolerance.'

BNP Joint Secretaries General Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel were also present at the press conference.
Rizvi said, "We quickly investigate incidents. We check videos and audios. If someone is found guilty, we take organizational action without any delay."

He told reporters, "We are sharing this with you so that others don't dare to do such acts. We deal with this kind of matter every day."

"Anyone who commits violence or terrorist acts inside the party, or with a neighbour or anyone else, will not be spared," he added.

Rizvi also spoke about actions taken in the past 24 hours in different districts, including Dhaka, based on such complaints.
He said, "In Chilmari of Kurigram district, there were torch processions, vandalism, and attacks on party workers."

"After getting the news, we investigated and removed Chilmari Upazila branch joint convener Sayeed Hossain Pakhi and member Abdul Motir Shirin from all party posts, including primary membership," Rizvi said.

He also said, "Khokan Mia, general secretary of Pachthubi Union (South) under Kotwali Model Police Station in Comilla South, has been expelled from the party. He was accused of terrorist activities and using weapons in the name of BNP. We even found pictures proving this."

Rizvi continued, "Ibrahim Hawlader, general secretary of Chanchra Union in Tajumuddin Upazila of Bhola, has also been expelled. He beat up the president of the local women's wing of BNP along with some miscreants. It was an immoral and cowardly act."

He then spoke about an incident in Lalmonirhat's Patgram, where some people reportedly vandalized a police station and kidnapped two accused persons in BNP's name. "An investigation is ongoing, and strong action will be taken against those involved," he said.

Photos and videos showing women being attacked and vandalism at Zakaria Bar in Mahakhali have appeared on social media. According to media reports, the attack was led by Munir Hossain, the convener of Banani Police Station Jubo Dal.
Rizvi said, "As soon as we heard about this, the Nationalist Jubo Dal expelled him from the organization."

"We have taken action on all such matters since August 5," Rizvi said.

He added, "Today I shared the incidents that happened from yesterday to today and the quick actions we have taken. We want our leaders and activists to act responsibly and behave properly as political representatives.
