Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has urged all to uphold the values of equality, justice, and peace in society as the nation prepares to observe the holy Ashura with solemnity and reverence on Sunday.

In a message marking the occasion, Prof Yunus paid deep tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and those martyred alongside him at Karbala. He described their ultimate sacrifice as an eternal symbol of standing firm against tyranny and injustice.

“This act of supreme courage by the noble soldiers of Islam against oppression remains inscribed in the annals of history, continuing to inspire humanity to uphold truth and justice in the face of adversity,” Prof Yunus said.

He extended his heartfelt wishes for the unity, solidarity, and continued progress of the Muslim Ummah, underscoring that Islam is a religion founded on the principles of truth, justice, and peace.

Reflecting on the significance of Ashura, the Chief Adviser highlighted that beyond the tragedy of Karbala, the day holds immense spiritual importance in Islamic tradition.

Citing Hadith, he noted the Prophet (PBUH) encouraged fasting on Ashura, recommending a two-day observance as a mark of devotion. “Let us embrace the profound lessons of this blessed day and strive to multiply our good deeds to draw closer to Allah,” Prof Yunus urged.

Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram in the Islamic calendar, commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in 61 Hijri. The day is recognized as a public holiday across Bangladesh, with various religious programs and acts of remembrance to be held throughout the country.
