Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdelouahab Saidani has reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh, pointing to a growing partnership that spans multiple sectors and a shared vision for sustainable progress.

Speaking at a reception in Dhaka on Saturday to mark Algeria’s 63rd Independence Day, Ambassador Saidani said the creation of the Algeria-Bangladesh Business Forum and regular exchanges of economic delegations highlight the expanding scope of bilateral cooperation.

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury attended the event as chief guest. Also present were BM Jamal Hossain, Director General (Africa wing) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Nurul Mostafa, President of the Algeria-Bangladesh Business Forum, among others.

The envoy noted that plans are underway for high-level visits in the near future, underlining both countries’ dedication to deepening collaboration across diverse fields.

Ambassador Saidani recalled that since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, the two nations have maintained close diplomatic relations founded on mutual respect and solidarity. “Algeria takes pride in being the first Arab country to recognise Bangladesh, standing by its side during crucial times and backing its integration into the global community,” he said.

The Ambassador added that both countries continue to cooperate on international platforms to advance peace, multilateralism, and a fairer world order.

Reflecting on Algeria’s historic struggle for freedom, Dr Saidani described Independence Day as a profound symbol of resilience, marking the end of 132 years of French colonial rule. He highlighted Algeria’s nearly eight-year-long armed resistance from 1954 to 1962 as an inspiration not only for Algeria but also for other nations’ quests for independence.

He also noted that this year’s celebration coincides with Algerian Youth Day, paying tribute to the country’s young people whose determination and ambitions drive Algeria forward.

“May this cherished occasion further strengthen the friendship between Algeria and Bangladesh and serve as inspiration for continued progress,” the Ambassador said.

The event also featured a cultural programme where members of Bangladesh Scouts, including Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, performed patriotic songs and dances. Artists from the local cultural community participated as well, underscoring the shared spirit of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
