Bangladesh bounced back in spectacular fashion to level the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, securing a nail-biting 16-run victory in the second match in Colombo on Saturday.

After suffering a collapse in the series opener despite a strong start, the Tigers turned the tables this time. Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 248 in 45.5 overs, with opener Parvez Hossain Emon top-scoring with a fluent 67, and Towhid Hridoy contributing a solid 51.

In reply, Sri Lanka looked on course for a comfortable chase, thanks to a blistering 56 off 31 balls from Kusal Mendis and a 69-run partnership with Nishan Madushka. But the momentum shifted dramatically when Bangladesh's spinners struck in the middle overs, triggering a batting collapse.

Shamim Hossain initiated the breakthrough by removing Charith Asalanka, while Tanvir Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with crucial wickets. Tanvir starred with the ball, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs, finishing with figures of 5 for 39.

Despite a valiant 78 off 85 balls from Janith Liyanage, Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 232 in 48.5 overs. Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling effort, supported by Tanjim Shakib (2 wickets) and one each from Mustafizur Rahman, Miraz, and Shamim, sealed the much-needed win.

With the series now tied 1-1, the third ODI will be a winner-takes-all showdown.
