BNP won’t shelter extortionists or grabbers: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday asserted that the party will not tolerate extortionists, land grabbers, or anti-social elements within its ranks.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, Rizvi said, “This party does not accommodate any extortionist, grabber, or those who disrupt social order. If someone creates chaos using the BNP’s name, the party has always taken swift organisational measures.”

He stressed that since its founding, the BNP has consistently fought to establish the rule of law, justice, and democratic governance by strengthening legal and institutional frameworks.

“This party believes in building an ideal state and society led by capable, honest, and humane leadership,” he said. “Whenever BNP has been in government, it has upheld these principles.”

Rizvi noted the rise of various social crimes, including what he termed an increasing ‘mob culture,’ driven by administrative stagnation.

“Attempts are underway to create chaos in society through this mob culture, fueled by illegal black money and covert activities. Meanwhile, a vested group is systematically spreading propaganda on social media against BNP to destabilise society and obstruct the democratic process,” he alleged.

He described these efforts to sow unrest and delay elections as reminiscent of the “strange narratives of development” once pushed by the Sheikh Hasina government.

Rizvi made it clear that the BNP has been taking decisive organisational action against those found abusing the party’s name to commit crimes. “No one involved in wrongdoing within the party is being spared. Many have already been expelled, relieved of their posts, suspended, or served show-cause notices.”

He also criticised law enforcement for what he described as a ‘suspiciously relaxed’ stance. “Despite our repeated calls to take legal action against miscreants, the administration has remained largely indifferent. Since the interim government assumed power, police activity has noticeably slowed, and in some cases, it’s evident that certain individuals are deliberately fomenting trouble,” he added.

Rizvi reaffirmed that the BNP remains committed to upholding democratic values and would continue rooting out any elements tarnishing the party’s name.
