Govt to buy 30,000 MT of urea fertilizer for Tk 146cr

The government has approved a proposal to purchase 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) under its 18th consignment. 

The procurement will cost approximately Tk 146.53 crore.

The approval came on Tuesday during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, at the Cabinet Division conference room in Dhaka.

According to meeting sources, this was the 26th meeting of the committee for 2025. A total of five proposals were placed, all of which received approval. These included one proposal each from the Ministry of Industries, the Road Transport and Highways Division, the Local Government Division, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, and two from the Power Division.

Specifically, under the Ministry of Industries’ proposal for the 2024-25 fiscal year, the government will import 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea from KAFCO. The total contract value stands at Tk 146.53 crore, with the price per metric tonne set at USD 397.75.
