A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for another accused in the brutal killing of scrap trader Sohag in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford) in Old Dhaka.

The accused, Md Titon Gazi, was arrested around 1 AM on Friday from the Zindabahar area under Kotwali Police Station.

He was later produced before the court on Saturday, where Kotwali Police Station Inspector Md Nasir Uddin, the case’s investigation officer, sought a seven-day remand for proper interrogation. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Piyas approved a five-day remand.

According to police, a total of five suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder. Among them, key suspects Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, and Tarek Rahman Robin, 22, are already on separate remands under cases filed for murder and the Arms Act.

On July 9, 39-year-old scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag was hacked, beaten, and crushed with stones in a savage attack near Gate 3 of Mitford Hospital. Following the incident, Sohag’s elder sister filed a murder case at Kotwali Police Station, while police separately lodged an arms case.

Law enforcement officials say the investigation is ongoing to apprehend all involved and to uncover the full circumstances behind the crime.
