Container handling at Chittagong Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) has seen a notable uptick in efficiency following the recent takeover of operations by Chittagong Dry Dock Limited.
Chief Adviser's (CA) Press Wing confirmed the information on Sunday in a social media post.
Data from the first week under the new management—from 7 July to 13 July 2025—shows the terminal processed an average of 3,181 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) daily. This represents an increase of 225 TEUs per day compared to the previous week’s average of 2,956 TEUs when Saif Powertec Limited was still at the helm. The improvement highlights early signs of enhanced operational discipline and coordination under the new operator.
The shift in management occurred after Saif Powertec’s contract with the Chittagong Port Authority expired on 6 July. The Ministry of Shipping then approved the handover to Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, effective from 7 July.
Since the transition, port activities have maintained steady momentum. Over the seven-day period, loading and unloading operations were completed on 10 vessels. As of the latest update, four ships are being handled simultaneously across the terminal’s four berths.
The increased pace is seen as a positive development for Bangladesh’s primary maritime gateway, which plays a critical role in the country’s trade and supply chain. Stakeholders are watching closely to see if this early boost in container throughput continues in the coming weeks under the new management structure.
