The four major political parties of the country have urged the government to adopt a stronger stance in maintaining law and order amid the country’s current situation.

The appeal came during a high-level meeting with Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus at his official residence, Jamuna, on Tuesday night.

The closed-door meeting, which began at 9 PM and ended after 11 PM, was attended by top leaders from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and the National Citizens' Party (NCP).

Following the meeting, Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul briefed journalists on the key points of discussion.

According to the law adviser, the CA emphasized the importance of political unity and encouraged the parties to make their solidarity more visible to the public. “He did not just speak of unity — he said it would be better if the public could see that unity in action, especially against fascism or through any constructive joint programs. That would bring reassurance to the people,” said Nazrul.

The political leaders, in turn, raised two main points. “First, there needs to be a firmer approach to law enforcement. They acknowledged there have been some shortcomings. Second, BNP highlighted the need for smooth progress in the electoral process,” Nazrul said.

Nazrul also clarified that the political parties present assured the Chief Adviser that there is no disunity regarding their stance against fascism. “Some leaders mentioned that while political rivals may exchange criticism on the field, it does not mean they are adversaries in the broader struggle for democracy. Occasional rhetoric should not be misinterpreted as cracks in the anti-fascist alliance,” he said.

The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to the National Consensus Commission process, citing their regular participation in its meetings and prompt responses to invitations from the Chief Adviser.

The meeting was attended by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury; Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad; NCP Convenor Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain; and Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Presidium Member Ashraf Ali Akon and Joint Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman.
