Dr Maksud Helali named new KUET VC

Dr Md Maksud Helali, a renowned technology researcher and retired professor of Mechanical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) for a four-year term.

The appointment was made by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, who is also the Chancellor of KUET. 

The official notification was issued on Thursday by “Scholarship and Engineering University Branch” of Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.

According to the notification, Dr Helali will serve as the chief executive of the university, residing full-time on the campus. His term will begin from the date of joining and continue for four years. He will receive a salary and benefits equivalent to what he was drawing immediately before retirement from BUET, along with other allowances as per university rules.

The appointment has been made under Section 10(1) of the KUET Act, 2003. 

It is also noted that President reserves the authority to revoke the appointment at any time, if deemed necessary. The notification added that “this order has been issued in public interest.”

Dr Helali is a distinguished figure in Bangladesh's engineering education sector.

During his long tenure at BUET, he led efforts in teaching, research, technology development and academic administration. His research focused on renewable energy, robotics, sustainable technology, manufacturing processes and technical skill development.

He has presented numerous research papers both at home and abroad and played a significant role in shaping national policies on education, industry and technology.
