Four mobile phone operators Grameenphone Ltd. (GP), Robi Axiata Limited (Robi), Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd and Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd. (Teletalk) have failed to ensure the minimum internet speed set by the regulator since 2018.

The mobile operators are unable to ensure the threshold internet speed for 4G anywhere outside the Dhaka city.
Mobile users in Bangladesh are suffering from slower data speed despite the launch of fourth-generation (4G) technology saven years ago, as operators have failed to ensure the minimum internet speed set by the regulator.

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the mobile operators could not maintain the minimum speed of 7 Mbps as standard for 4G.

None of the mobile operators can maintain the required 4G speed of 7 megabytes per second in any of the eight divisions of Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet., the telecom regulator found in a recent speed test.

The commission has not carried out any drive-test to measure the quality of services provided by the mobile operators for last three years.  Three mobile phone operators - Grameenphone, Robi and Teletalk - failed to maintain 4G internet speed standards in terms of downloading speed in the Dhaka division, according to a Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission test report.

The test which was conducted in December 13-31 of 2021, however, did not cover the areas in the Dhaka North City Corporation and the Dhaka South City Corporation, it said.
