PIROJPUR sees political activities gaining momentum with the national parliamentary election approaching. The district, which comprises three constituencies, Pirojpur-1,  Pirojpur-2 and Pirojpur-3, is witnessing increased engagement from key political players, especially the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh. While both parties are vigorously campaigning, other political groups such as National Citizen Party (NCP), Jatiya Party, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) are slowly progressing in the field.

BNP candidates across all three constituencies are actively seeking nominations, engaging with grassroots supporters, and participating in various programmes to increase their visibility. Jamaat, on the other hand, has already declared its candidates in all three seats and has launched early and extensive campaigns. The party is deploying door-to-door outreach, public meetings, and leaflet distribution to re-establish its presence across the district.

PIROJPUR-1: The constituency encompasses Nazirpur, Pirojpur Sadar, and Nesarabad upazilas.
In this seat, BNP's District Convener Principal Alomgir Hossain is leading a robust campaign in anticipation of party nomination. A well-known figure in the district, Alomgir brings with him years of experience in education and politics. Having held positions such as president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and general secretary of district BNP, he maintains a solid grassroots connection. His active involvement in social and cultural circles further enhances his appeal.

Jamaat's declared candidate Masood Sayedee, son of the late party leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee, is also heavily involved in campaign activities. Although not officially tied to Jamaat, Masood is closely associated with the party through his leadership of the Allama Sayedee Foundation. A former chairman of Indurkani Upazila Parishad, he is known for his accessibility and has already mobilised a strong campaign team.

Another contender, veteran politician Mostafa Jamal Haider, Chairman of Jatiya Party (JaPa) and former cabinet minister, is eyeing a return to parliament. A respected son of Nazirpur, Jamal Haider has previously served the constituency and remains optimistic about reclaiming voter trust based on his prior service and experience.

From the BNP camp, other hopefuls include Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, former chairman of Nazirpur Upazila Parishad, who has been deeply involved in political and social activities despite facing legal harassment during the AL regime. Popular among sports circles and known for his community engagement, he remains a strong candidate.

Also in the race is Eliza Zaman, the only female BNP hopeful in the constituency. A central committee member and elected Union Parishad chairperson, she is campaigning on her proven track record and long-standing contributions to the party work.

PIROJPUR-2: The constituency includes Bhandaria, Kawkhali, and Zianagar upazilas.
This seat has drawn the highest number of BNP nomination seekers-at least seven-while Jamaat's declared candidate Shameem Sayedee, son of Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee, seeks to establish a legacy by contesting again. Shameem, known for his religious oratory and leadership of the Sayedee Foundation, has begun a campaign focused on development and religious values. Despite his previous loss in Pirojpur-1, he remains a prominent contender.

Among the key BNP figures here is Gazi Ohiduzzaman Lavlu, a known name in student and district politics and younger brother of the late MP Gazi Nuruzzaman Babul. Lavlu enjoys strong support from party activists and locals and has intensified his campaign to secure the nomination.

Dr. Mostazijur Rahman Iran, Chairman of Bangladesh Labour Party and an ally of the BNP-led 12-Party Alliance, is also a potential nominee. A seasoned politician, Dr. Iran has previously contested from the same seat and is expected to re-enter the race depending on alliance dynamics.

Medical professional and political activist Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Labu, Vice-President of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), is another serious BNP candidate. Known for his healthcare outreach, he is popular in the Bhandaria area and is banking on public health services as a key campaign theme.

Ahmed Sohel Monjur (Sumon), son of former state minister Nurul Islam Monjur and President of Bhandaria Upazila BNP, has launched a strong campaign rooted in legacy politics and local familiarity.

Engineer AKM Rezaul Karim, Chairman of Nationalist Research Centre, Jubo Dal and Zia Parishad, and a former leader of the UK unit of the Combined Professional Parishad, is actively seeking nomination from the BNP.

Another strong BNP contender is SM Ahsan Kabir, President of the Kawkhali Upazila BNP and a two-time elected Upazila Parishad Chairman. He is already engaged in grassroots-level campaigning and expects to secure the party's nomination.

Additional BNP hopefuls include Mahmud Hossain, a recent BNP entrant with a student union background; Md. Ahsanul Kabir Ahsan, twice-elected chairman of Kawkhali Upazila Parishad; and Md. Wahiduzzaman Wahid, former chairman of Nesarabad Upazila. Each is actively organizing supporters and engaging in party-based activities to earn a nomination.

Md. Fakhrul Alam, a long-time BNP activist and Dhaka University alumnus, rounds out the field of contenders in this highly competitive constituency.

Anwar Hossain Manju, Chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) and a seven-time Member of Parliament (MP), has expressed interest in contesting the upcoming election under his party's traditional Bicycle symbol-provided the election is held within 2026. However, the veteran politician, now 81-year old, has acknowledged that age-related complications may prevent him from participating if there is a delay of three to four more years.

Still, a member of his family is expected to contest from the constituency, either himself or his cousin Mahmud Hossain, who may run from the BNP. Manju, one of the most senior politicians in both the district and the country, is a former cabinet minister and the editor of the Daily Ittefaq.

From Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Mawlana Abul Kalam Azad is set to contest again. A native of Kawkhali, he also ran from the same seat in both the 2018 and 2024 elections. His party has officially nominated him for the upcoming race, and campaign activities have already commenced.

From  Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), Md. Jubaer Ahmed, President of the Bhandaria Upazila unit and former vice-president of the district committee, is also confident about getting the party ticket. He mentioned that two other hopefuls from his party are also working actively in the constituency ahead of the polls.

PIROJPUR-3: The constituency incorporates Mathbaria Upazila.

In this seat, political temperatures are rising as BNP navigates internal factionalism. Former upazila BNP president Md. Ruhul Amin Dulal is attempting to make a political comeback. Despite being expelled from the party, he maintains that the decision was unjust and anticipates reinstatement.

Meanwhile, Jamaat has officially declared Sharif Muhammad Abdul Jalil as its candidate. A college teacher and current Ameer of Mathbaria Upazila Jamaat, Jalil is a well-respected figure known for his community service. His campaign includes religious outreach, village meetings, and coordination with local youth.

From the BNP side, KM Humayun Kabir, Convener of the upazila unit, remains a leading candidate with significant grassroots contributions.

Younger leaders such as A R Mamun Khan (Central Jubo Dal), Moniruzzaman Echo (Dhaka-based Mathbaria Kalyan Samity), and Mamun Billah (former VP, Central Chhatra Dal) are also emerging as serious contenders, conducting localised campaigns and community-based events to gain visibility and favor from BNP's top leadership.

Advocate Karim Sikder, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (BD-JSD), has already begun public engagement. He was once elected as Social Welfare Secretary of Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU) in 1989, representing the Chhatra League (JSD). From his school days, he has been actively involved in student politics.

Meanwhile, Md. Imran Khan Russel of GOP has been officially nominated as the party candidate in the upcoming national election. According to his statement, he has been campaigning in support of his candidacy in Mathbaria Upazila, using the party's Truck symbol.

As election fever rises, political dynamics in Pirojpur continue to evolve. BNP is yet to finalise its candidates, but its aspirants are running robust pre-election campaigns. Jamaat-e-Islami has strategically announced its contenders early and is capitalising on the groundwork laid by former leaders.
