Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has returned home after receiving treatment at Gulshan's United Hospital.

According to the party Assistant Secretary General and Head of Central Media and Publicity, Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman was discharged from the hospital at 10:30am on Tuesday, ten days after a successful bypass surgery. In a press statement, Jubayer said the Jamaat chief expressed his gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their prayers for his recovery.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman underwent heart bypass surgery at United Hospital on August 2 after doctors detected five blockages in his arteries.

Jamaat's Nayeeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher told the media that the party chief had made good progress, which allowed him to be discharged. "Open-heart surgery is a major operation, and recovery takes some time. He will need about two weeks of rest at home and is expected to appear in public after three weeks. We request everyone to pray for his complete recovery," he said.

United Hospital's Dr Shahid Alam Chowdhury, who was part of the surgical team, said Jamaat Ameer spent 5 days in the cardiac ICU before being shifted to a cabin. "He has been improving day by day. We are very happy with his progress and hope he will return to normal life within a month," Dr Shahid Alam added.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman's health issues began after he suddenly fell ill following Jamaat's national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on July 19. At the time, doctors suspected dehydration but found no major complications. After two days of rest, he resumed political activities in Rangpur, Khulna and Moulvibazar, but was hospitalized again on  July 30, when further tests revealed heart blockages.
