IU teachers’ coaster collides head-on with local bus in Kushtia

A coaster bus carrying teachers of Islamic University (IU) was involved in a head-on collision with a local passenger bus on Sunday morning at Egaromile area of Kushtia sadar upazila.

The accident occurred around 10:30 AM as the teachers were en route to the university campus from Kushtia town.

The driver of the IU coaster, Nazrul Islam, and a faculty member, Professor Dr. Shafiqul Islam, were seriously injured and rushed to Kushtia General Hospital. 

The driver, who sustained severe injuries to his hip, was later referred to a higher facility for advanced treatment.

At least eight individuals were injured in total, including several teachers, though most suffered minor injuries and received first aid on-site.

Witnesses reported that the collision happened when the bus, attempting to overtake a van, veered into the path of the IU coaster, resulting in a head-on impact.

Professor Dr. Abdur Rauf, transport administrator at Islamic University, confirmed the injuries and stated that university authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

Syed Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Chourhas Highway Police Station, said, "Our team responded immediately after receiving the alert. One of the injured is in critical condition."

An investigation into the incident is underway, added the OC.
