The prime accused in the murder of youth Rahat Hossain Rabbi at a Banani “shisha bar” has confessed to the crime in court.

On Tuesday, Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia recorded the confessional statement of Abdul Malek Munna after his three-day remand. Following the statement, the court ordered him sent to jail, according to court police officials.

Rabbi was fatally stabbed on the staircase of the “360 Degree” shisha bar in Banani around 5:30 AM on August 14 while leaving the venue. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

RAB later arrested the accused in Cumilla on August 15. The next day, a Dhaka court placed Munna on a three-day remand.

Meanwhile, another Dhaka court on Tuesday granted three-day remand each for four other accused, Mir Hossain, 22; Fazle Rabbi, 24; Sabbir Ahmed Suman, 30; and Arafat Islam Fahim, 27, in the same case.

Investigating officer SI Amjad Sheikh of Banani Police Station had sought seven days’ remand for each. After hearing arguments from both sides, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman granted three days.

Rabbi’s father, Rabiul Awal, filed a murder case with Banani Police Station on August 15.
