3 more die of dengue, death toll rises to 135

Bangladesh reported three more dengue-related deaths in 24 hours to Sunday morning, bringing this year’s official death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 135, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 580 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, pushing the total caseload since January to 34,411. Of them, 1,571 remain under treatment nationwide.

The latest fatalities were confirmed in Dhaka South City Corporation, Chattogram Division (outside city corporation areas) and Mymensingh Division.

Fresh hospitalisations were highest in Barishal (128), followed by Chattogram (94), Dhaka Division outside city areas (85), Dhaka North City Corporation (85), Dhaka South City Corporation (80), Rajshahi (55), Khulna (32), Mymensingh (17), Rangpur (3) and Sylhet (1).

Last year, Bangladesh experienced its deadliest dengue outbreak on record, with 575 deaths and more than 101,000 cases reported.
