Awami League Advisory Council member and former Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has been put on life support at Square Hospital in the capital.
As his health condition deteriorated, he was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night and placed on life support.
Confirming the matter, his relative Abul Khayer said that Tofail Ahmed had been ill for a long time. Recently, he suffered from fever and became physically weaker. Following doctors’ advice, he was placed on life support.
The family has requested prayers from the nation for his recovery.
The veteran politician has long been suffering from stroke-related complications. He has been using a wheelchair for mobility, with one side of his body paralyzed. He has also been facing memory loss and other health issues.
Tofail Ahmed was elected a member of parliament nine times, most recently from Bhola-1 constituency. During his long political career, he also served as a member of the Awami League Presidium.
