Department of English at East West University (EWU) hosted one of the country's largest inter-university literary events, Foodi Presents EWU Lit-Carnival 2025, on Thursday; bringing together a vibrant mix of students, educators and literary enthusiasts from across Bangladesh.

Held at the university's main campus, the day-long carnival saw participation from 22 public and private universities, making it a dynamic platform for showcasing creative talent and celebrating literary expression.

A diverse range of segments; including Spot Poetry and Recitation, Comic-Con and Cosplay, Poster Presentation, Drama and Masquerade, offered participants the opportunity to compete, collaborate and express their artistic visions.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were several engaging attractions, such as a literature-themed food court, used-book swap and numerous interactive stalls that kept the campus buzzing throughout the day.

The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Founder Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of Board of Trustees at East West University.

The inaugural ceremony also featured Ms. Luva Nahid Choudhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation, as Chief Guest.

In her keynote address, Ms. Choudhury emphasized the transformative power of literature and officially opened the stalls at EWU courtyard.

Ms. Munize Manzur, Member of Board of Trustees at EWU and Principal of Sunbeams School, served as a judge for the Spot Poetry competition.

She highlighted the importance of literature as “nourishment for the soul” in her remarks to the audience.

The competitions saw spirited performances, with universities such as North South University, Gopalganj University of Science and Technology and Eastern University earning top honours in various categories.

EWU participants also shone in multiple segments, demonstrating the university’s strong commitment to literary excellence and cultural engagement.

The event concluded with a grand award ceremony in the evening.

Professor Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University, attended as the Special Guest and delivered the closing remarks.

The event was convened by Ms. Israt Jahan, Assistant Professor and Ms. Shahnaz Ameer, Senior Lecturer, both from Department of English at EWU.

Foodi Presents EWU Lit-Carnival 2025 not only celebrated literary traditions but also emphasized the role of imagination and creativity in an increasingly digital and mechanized world.

The event served as a testament to East West University’s dedication to nurturing literary passion among youth and fostering a space for cultural dialogue and artistic innovation.
