Man killed after being run over by train in Bagerhat

FAKIRHAT, BAGERHAT, Oct 17: A farmer was killed after being run over by a train while crossing a railway bridge in Fakirhat Upazila on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Niyam Mina, 55, son of the late Samad Mina of Bhatrakhama village under Lakhpur Union in the upazila.

According to locals, Niyam Mina was on his way to bring his cattle from the field around 12:30 pm when he attempted to cross the No. 18 railway bridge in the Bhatrakhama area. At that time, a Mongla-bound train from Benapole hit him, killing him on the spot.

On receiving information, police from Fakirhat Model Police Station and Mongla Railway Police rushed to the scene and recovered the body.

Mongla Railway Police Camp in-charge Nazmul Hossain said, "We reached the spot soon after being informed. After preparing the initial inquest report, the body was handed over to the family following legal procedures."
