The state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has hit the digital lane, launching a pilot e-ticketing service on three major inter-district routes - in a move billed as a leap toward smarter, queue-free travel.
The service, powered by Shohoz.com, went live after the two sides inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at BRTC headquarters in Motijheel on Thursday.
Present at the signing were Motijheel International Bus Depot Chief Md Abdul Latif, Barishal Bus Depot Chief Md Zulfikar Ali, and Shohoz.com Director of Tickets Shakil Zowad Rahim, among others.
Under the pilot phase, e-ticketing will be available on the Dhaka-Barishal-Dhaka, Dhaka-Daudkandi-Dhaka, and Dhaka-Araihazar-Dhaka routes.
Tickets can be booked through Shohoz's website, app, or call centre, with a Tk 20 service fee per purchase, alongside standard payment gateway charges.
"We're taking the first step toward a fully digital BRTC," said Chairman Abdul Latif Molla, who chaired the event. "If the pilot gets positive feedback, all routes will gradually move to e-ticketing. Shohoz's experience with Bangladesh Railway gives us confidence that this will transform how passengers travel." Also in attendance were Director (Administration & Operations) Md Rahenul Islam, Director (Engineering) Colonel Kazi Ayub Ali, and general managers from various divisions, joined by Shohoz representatives.
The pilot project marks a decisive push by BRTC to modernize public transport, cut down long queues, and make ticketing transparent and hassle-free for commuters across Bangladesh.
