Researchers at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have developed an affordable and climate-friendly cooking stove that also produces biochar, offering a practical solution for both household energy use and sustainable agriculture. Named "BAU Biochar Stove," the innovation allows users to cook food while simultaneously generating biochar, a valuable soil amendment known for its climate and productivity benefits.

Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT) funded the project led by Prof. Dr. Md. Shahiduzzaman from the Department of Parasitology, BAU. The research team includes Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mofizur Rahman Jahangir of the Department of Soil Science, Daily Observer's BAU correspondent and Faculty of Veterinary Science student Md. Ashikuzzaman, Mohammad Sohan, PhD student Sumon Chandro Mohanto, and Md. Al Nur Tarak, a student of Netrokona Government College. Field-level implementation of the project is currently underway in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district.
