Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to a record high, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announcing a sharp increase of nearly Tk 4,000 per bhori, pushing the price of premium gold above Tk 222,000 for the first time in the country’s history.

The association said on Monday that the new prices will take effect from Tuesday.

Gold prices had already been raised by Tk 1,000 per bhori from Monday, taking the rate to around Tk 218,000, which itself was a previous record. Tuesday’s revision will set a new all-time high.

Under the revised rates, the price of hallmarked 22-carat gold will rise to Tk 222,083 per bhori, up from Tk 218,117 on Monday, an increase of Tk 3,966. The price of hallmarked 21-carat gold will increase by Tk 3,791 to Tk 211,993 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will rise by Tk 3,266 to Tk 181,725 per bhori.

Traditional method gold will also become more expensive, with prices increasing by Tk 2,800 to Tk 151,399 per bhori from Tuesday.

Silver prices are also being revised upward. From Tuesday, the price of hallmarked silver will be Tk 4,957 per bhori, up by Tk 385 from the current rate of Tk 4,572.

BAJUS said the price hike reflects an increase in the local price of refined gold, driven mainly by a fresh rise in global gold prices. In the international market, gold climbed to 4,418 US dollars per ounce on Monday.

The latest adjustment underscores continued volatility in precious metals markets, with global trends directly influencing domestic prices in Bangladesh.
