DU declares 3-day mourning over Khaleda Zia’s death

Dhaka University (DU) has announced a three-day mourning program, from Tuesday to Thursday, following the death of former Prime Minister and symbol of national unity Begum Khaleda Zia, to pay her the highest respect with due solemnity.

As part of the mourning, all classes and examinations at the university have been suspended from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday. The national flag at the university has been lowered to half-mast. Further programs will be framed in line with state directives, university authorities circulate this in an official notice.

University will also organise academic seminars and other programs highlighting the illustrious life and contributions of Begum Khaleda Zia.

From Tuesday, special prayers, Qurankhani, doa and munajat will be held seeking eternal peace for the departed soul at the DU Central Mosque (Masjidul Jamiya), as well as at all mosques located in residential halls, hostels and residential areas of the university. Special prayer services will also be arranged at places of worship of other religions.

To facilitate participation in Begum Khaleda Zia’s funeral prayers at Manik Mia Avenue after Zuhr on Wednesday, DU administration has arranged adequate special transportation for teachers, students, officers and employees of the university.
