BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday emphasised that the nationalist banner should not be used solely for processions and meetings. He stressed the need to create a society where professionals can live with dignity and pride.

Rizvi made the remarks at the inauguration of an organisational action plan of the Bangladesh Nationalist Motor Drivers' Association, held on the ground floor of BNP's central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.

"Forming organisations only for rallies and meetings is not enough," he said. "Motor vehicle drivers and other professionals must be able to live with respect and without harassment, including harassment from the police. Laws should be formulated keeping these issues in mind."

He noted that poor and working-class citizens suffer the most from harassment and oppression. "To protect them and ensure a dignified life, the profession of motor vehicle drivers must be developed as a respected occupation," he said.

Sharing his experiences from abroad, Rizvi highlighted that many educated Bangladeshis in the United States, including university graduates, engineers, and doctors, work as Uber or taxi drivers and maintain a good standard of living. "There is no class discrimination there, and taxi drivers and other professionals enjoy the same social respect," he said. "Bangladesh must build a society where there is no difference between small and big jobs."

Rizvi also praised BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for his commitment to creating an inclusive and dignified society through his 31-point programme and other initiatives.
