Law enforcers to be deployed for 7 days

Law enforcing agencies will be deployed for seven days on the occasion of upcoming parliamentary election and referendum scheduled for February 12.

The deployment will be made to ensure law and order in facilitating a free, fair, impartial, peaceful and festive election.  According to a circular, the deployment will begin on February 8, four days before the polls and will remain on the ground till February 14.

The election will involve approximately 127.5 million voters, with polling to take place at around 260,000 booths in nearly 43,000 polling stations of 300 constituencies.

Between 13 and 18 members of the law enforcing agencies will be stationed at each polling centre. In total, more than 800,000 personnel from various forces will be deputed for the task.

Of them, about 550,000 members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) will be assigned at polling stations. Some 1.50 lakh police personnel and one lakh members of the armed forces and 35,000 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel will be on duty to maintain law and order.
