A Dhaka court on Monday acquitted actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alishan Chowdhury from alleged financial fraud and criminal intimidation charges.

Executive Magistrate Md Adnan Julfikar passed this order after a hearing at the Dhaka Executive Magistrate’s Court.

According to the case statement, plaintiff Amirul Islam alleged that he had paid Tk 2.7 million in cash and via mobile financial services after being promised a partnership in the actress’s family business. He claimed that the business venture never commenced and that repeated requests for a refund were delayed.

The complainant further alleged that on February 11, he was verbally abused and threatened with death when he went to collect the money at a restaurant near Hatirjheel.

Following police advice, the complainant filed a case under sections 107 and 117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Court records show that arrest warrants were issued on November 10 after the accused failed to appear. They later surrendered through their lawyers on November 16 and were granted bail before being cleared of the charges.
