BRAHMANBARIA, Jan 21: Election symbols have been distributed among candidates contesting the six constituencies of Brahmanbaria for the upcoming polls.

In Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj and two unions of Bijoynagar), independent candidate Barrister Rumeen  Farhana was formally allotted the 'Duck' symbol on Wednesday at the office of the District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner.

Farhana had earlier sought nomination from BNP. However, the BNP-led alliance nominated Junaid Al Habib, Vice-President of Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh, for the seat. Defying the party's decision, she declared her candidacy as an independent, leading to her expulsion from BNP.

Speaking to reporters after receiving the symbol, Farhana said the duck was her preferred choice. She expressed satisfaction, adding that the affection of voters and supporters had brought her to this position. "Children call me their duck candidate. This symbol belongs to my voters," she said.

According to the returning office, 13 candidates across the district withdrew their nominations, leaving 48 valid contenders in the six constituencies. Party nominees were given their respective symbols, while independents received symbols based on preference.

Farhana pledged to work for the development of Brahmanbaria-2 if elected.
