ECNEC approves 25 projects worth TK 45,191.27cr

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 25 development projects at a cost of Tk 45,191.27 crore. 

Of this, Tk 10,881.40 crore will come from the government's own financing, Tk 32,18.9croreto from foreign financing and Tk 2,291.78 crore will come from the organisations' own fund.

These projects were approved on Sunday at a meeting chaired by Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chairperson Dr Muhammad Yunus. The meeting approved 14 new projects, 6 revised and 5 extended projects.

Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, Finance Adviser DrSalehuddin Ahmed, Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain attended besides various ministries and senior government officials.

The approved projects included two projects of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges such as widening and Rangamati (Manikchhari)-Mahalchhari-Khagrachhari Regional Highway. Three regional and one district highway projects under Munshiganj Road Division.

The second amendment of elevated expressway construction project from Lalkhan Bazar in Chittagong city to Shah Amanat International Airport has been approved under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

Two projects of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism have been approved, including strengthening of the runway and taxiway of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport and Parki Tourism Facility Development Project. 

Women Entrepreneurs in Sanitation and important rural infrastructure development project in Comilla district also got approval.

Two projects under Ministry of Home Affairs will construct police outposts, investigation centres, naval police and tourist police establishments in different areas of the country and district office of Narcotics Control Department. 

The second amendment of the project to construct a dual-gauge railway line through Dohazari-Ramu-Cox's Bazar to Gundum on the Myanmar border under the Ministry of Railways has been approved.

A project to create employment through freelancing training for educated job seekers in 64 districts has been approved in addition to a project to expand alternative education programs for out-of-school children.

Six projects of Water Resources ministry approved including dredging for river erosion prevention, construction of rubber dams and integrated water and land management of Arial Beel. The first amendment to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant  has been approved.

In addition, the meeting approved 10 projects costing less than Tk 50 crorewach including government college development, BUP development, expansion of fire service ambulance service and Syedpur power plant construction project.

Six projects under the Water Resources Ministry were approved, covering sustainable river management in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts, dredging and construction of a rubber dam on the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj, protection of both banks of the Padma River in Chapainawabganj, erosion control along the Tetulia River in Mehendiganjupazila of Barishal, protection of the right bank of the Padma River at Majhirghat Zero Point in Zajiraupazila of Shariatpur district, and integrated water and land resources management to improve livelihoods in the Arial Beel area.

One revised project under the Science and Technology Ministry for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction was also approved.

The ECNEC meeting was also apprised about 10 projects, each costing less than Tk 50 crore, which had already been approved by the Planning Adviser.

These include development projects of selected government colleges, Bangladesh University of Professionals, strengthening of the Education Engineering Department through establishment of headquarters and district offices, completion of partially implemented science and education infrastructure projects, expansion of ambulance services of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, construction of RAB headquarters, widening and development of a national highway section in Narail town, and revision of the Saidpur 150 MW power plant project.

Besides, a project has been renamed as establishment of the permanent campus of Bangladesh Maritime University.
