
With the aim of strengthening scientific research, higher education, and technological innovation for national development, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with five leading national and international academic and industrial institutions.
The partner institutions include Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Daffodil International University, Dhaka International University, Premier Minerals Limited, and Similitude Pty Ltd.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Mini Auditorium of the Commission's Headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka on Monday.
Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Md Anwar Hossain, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he emphasized maximizing the effective use of limited resources through mutual collaboration and ensuring the commercialization of scientific and technological innovations. The ceremony was presided over by the Chairman of BAEC, Dr. Md. MaziburRahman, and was attended by Vice Chancellors of various universities, representatives of partner institutions, Chairman of SPARRSO, heads of agencies under the Ministry of Science and Technology, senior ministry officials, as well as scientists and officials of the Commission.
Under the MoUs signed with the universities, academic and scientific collaboration will be strengthened through joint research initiatives, shared use of laboratory and training facilities, and the joint organization of academic programs. In addition, the MoU between BAEC's Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), Jashore, and JUST will promote collaborative research in medical imaging, radiopharmaceuticals, radiation therapy, biomedical engineering, and healthcare technologies.
At the international level, BAEC, in collaboration with Similitude Pty Ltd of Australia, has undertaken initiatives to implement a medicinal maggot therapy program, establish pilot production facilities, and provide training for healthcare professionals. Furthermore, through the MoU signed with Premier Minerals Limited-an Australian company registered in Singapore-research and geological survey activities will be conducted for the extraction of coastal heavy mineral resources. This initiative will support mineral resource development and enhance national capacity in mineral research and applied geosciences.
