Bangabhaban official held over Jamaat Ameer's X-account hack

 
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has detained Mohammad Sarwar Alam, an assistant programmer at Bangabhaban, over the hacking of the X-account (formerly Twitter) of Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Sarwar Alam was arrested late Tuesday night from the Rajarbagh area of the capital and taken to the DB office for questioning.

Md Shafiqul Islam, Additional Commissioner of DMP's DB, told media that Sarwar Alam was brought in for interrogation in connection with the hacking of the Jamaat Ameer's X-account. "After the questioning, necessary measures will be taken regarding him," he added.

A source at the DB said that Sarwar Alam was apprehended around 12:30 am at the government quarters on the east side of Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium. His mobile phone and laptop were seized.

The incident follows a post in English that appeared on the Jamaat Ameer's X-handle on Saturday afternoon.
