Benefits Md Sahabuddin will retain after resignation

President Md Sahabuddin resigned on Friday, July 24 afternoon. However, despite stepping down, the newly former president will enjoy several state benefits for a lifetime.

According to existing national regulations, a person who completed their term as president or served in the role for at least six months is entitled to a monthly pension equal to 75 per cent of the last drawn salary of the President until death.

The President's (Remuneration and Privileges) Act, 1975 (amended up to May 2016) outlines several privileges in addition to the former president's pension. Under the law, the former head of state will be entitled to a personal assistant and an attendant. He will also receive funds for official expenses, the annual cap of which will be set by the government.

Furthermore, he will be provided with free government transport to attend official functions, a telephone connection at his residence, and an exemption from paying bills up to a limit determined by the government.

Additionally, he will receive medical facilities equivalent to those granted to a Cabinet Minister, along with a diplomatic passport. While traveling within the country, he will also enjoy rent-free accommodation at government circuit houses or rest houses.
