Gaibandha violence: Court clerk murdered in axe attack

A court clerk of the Judge Court was killed after being attacked with an axe by unidentified assailants in Gaibandha Sadar upazila on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Sujan Chandra, 35, son of the late Niranjan Chandra, a resident of Khamar Ballamjhar village under Ballamjhar union in the upazila.

According to local sources, the incident occurred around Sujan Chandra’s home in Khamar Ballamjhar village when unknown assailants struck him from behind on the head with an axe and fled the scene.

Later, family members and locals rushed him toward Rangpur Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Confirming the incident, Gaibandha Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said that further details will be known after completing the investigation.

Police recovered an axe from the spot, which is suspected to have been used in the attack, added an official.
