BNP ministers stressed that the new government is committed to democratic governance, accountability, and constitutional processes, senior BNP leaders have emphasized.
Speaking after the Cabinet's swearing-in ceremony at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building on Tuesday, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, "The people of Bangladesh have regained ownership of the country. Citizens will now be able to move freely, elect their representatives, and ensure accountability." He called on all MPs to work together to make Parliament effective.
Another BNP Standing Committee member, Salahuddin Ahmed, said the party is committed to implementing every promise of the political charter signed as a compromise document. He emphasized that Parliament will be the main platform to reflect the people's verdict and move the country forward, with progress ensured through necessary laws and constitutional amendments.
Salahuddin Ahmed clarified that the constitution does not allow administering an oath to members of the Constitutional Reform Council, which is why no such oath was taken. He said all steps, including the parliamentary oath, formation of the government, and future governance, have been and will continue to be carried out strictly according to the constitution. After Tarique Rahman was elected leader in the parliamentary party meeting, a formal letter was sent to the President to form the new government.
Replying to questions about the oath process, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "To fully reflect the referendum verdict and the will of the people, necessary laws and constitutional amendments must first be passed in Parliament. Only then can the oath for the Constitutional Reform Council be included in the Third Schedule."
The new government officially started its journey with the swearing-in ceremony at Parliament House, where BNP leaders formally assumed office.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, after taking oath, told reporters, "We are confident of recovering money laundered from the country. This will be used for national development. Strengthening the economy and taking strict action against corruption will be major priorities of the government."
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said, "Improving law and order is our top priority. We will ensure the security of the people and make law enforcement agencies more active and accountable."
Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad emphasized, "Equal rights will be ensured for people of all religions. The government is committed to maintaining religious harmony and tolerance," stressing peaceful coexistence among communities.
Observers have expressed hope that the new government will take effective steps to protect the economy, improve law and order, and maintain religious harmony across the country.
