CHATTOGRAM, Feb 18: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) has arrested Imtiaz Sultan Ikram, the fugitive accused in the murder case of schoolgirl Tasfia in Chittagong and his accomplice Abul Kalam Azad.
They were arrested in a raid in the Bayezid Link Road area of the city on Tuesday night. The arrested are - Imtiaz Sultan Ikram alias Sultan Ikram, 28, and Abul Kalam Azad, 62.
Two foreign pistols, five magazines and 56 rounds of bullets were recovered from them during the raid.
RAB-7 commander Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman said that Ikram is a well-known face in the criminal world of Chittagong. He was once a follower of former city mayor AJM Nasir.
After becoming an accused in the murder case of schoolgirl Tasfia, he fled the country to India and Dubai. There, he developed a friendship with terrorist Sarwar Babla. Sarwar Babla was shot dead by terrorists in the Bayezid Chalitali area last November.
He also said that Ikram used to demand extortion from various businessmen in the Bayezid Bostami, Oxygen and Muradpur areas of Chittagong using foreign numbers while staying abroad.
