New IGP Ali Hossain Fakir takes charge

Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir formally took charge as the head of Bangladesh Police on Wednesday morning.

On his arrival at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, a well-equipped contingent of police personnel accorded him a guard of honor, marking the beginning of his tenure as the country's top police official, said a press release of Police Headquarters.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday issued a notification appointing Fakir as the new IGP.

He succeeds outgoing IGP Baharul Alam.

Prior to the appointment, Fakir served as Additional Inspector General (IG) of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN).

Fakir joined Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the 15th BCS (Police) batch on November 15, 1995.

Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in various important capacities with professionalism and integrity.
