
GOPALGANJ, Feb 25: Lawmaker Dr KM Babar has directed doctors at Gopalganj Medical College and Hospital to ensure round-the-clock surgical services within the next three months, fulfilling a key election pledge made to his constituents.
The directive came during an exchange meeting with doctors held at the medical college conference room on Tuesday afternoon.
Dr KM Babar, the Member of Parliament from Gopalganj-2 constituency, said he had promised voters that if elected, he would introduce 24-hour surgical facilities at the hospital.
"It was my election commitment. I assured the people that if they elected me, I would ensure round-the-clock surgical services at Gopalganj Medical College Hospital," he said.
He emphasised that the hospital must be capable of providing treatment for all types of patients and that residents of the district should not be referred elsewhere for medical care.
During the meeting, the MP listened to various problems faced by doctors, including shortages of medical equipment, infrastructure limitations and a lack of adequate manpower. He assured them that he would make every effort to resolve these issues.
"If necessary, I will raise the matter in parliament to ensure proper healthcare services for my constituents. I am committed to fulfilling my promises and seek your cooperation in this regard," he told the doctors.
Among others, Hospital Director Dr Niaz Mohammad, Principal Prof Dr Amal Chandra Pal, Director of the 250-bed General Hospital Dr Jibitesh Biswas, Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Sayeed Md Faruk, Head of Medicine Dr Subhash Chandra Bhaduri, Head of Surgery Dr Masudur Rahman, Head of Paediatrics Dr SM Alinur Islam, Head of Gynaecology Dr Farzana Rashid and Head of Orthopaedics Kanchan Bhattacharya spoke at the meeting.
The doctors highlighted the need for modern equipment, improved infrastructure and additional medical staff to enhance patient care.
They thanked the MP for visiting the hospital and expressed their commitment to providing the best possible treatment to patients in Gopalganj, while also seeking his continued support and intervention to address the hospital's challenges.
