
Member of Parliament (MP) from Barguna-2 Nurul Islam Moni, also Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been appointed as the Chief Whip of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
Human Resources Division of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat has confirmed the appointment on Monday by issuing a gazette notification.
The notification, signed by Secretary Kaniz Mowla, stated that the appointments were made under Article 3(1) of the Bangladesh Whips Ordinance, 1972.
Alongside the Chief Whip, six Members of Parliament have been appointed as Whips. They are G K Gaus, MP for Habiganj-3; Rokibul Islam Bokul, MP for Khulna-3; Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, MP for Shariatpur-3; Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu, MP for Natore-2; Akhtaruzzaman Mia, MP for Dinajpur-4; and Ashraf Uddin Nizan, MP for Lakshmipur-4.
Earlier, in the 13th parliamentary election held on February 12, Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured an absolute majority.
Subsequently, on February 17, a new government was formed under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The first session of the newly elected Parliament is scheduled to begin on March 12. The appointments of the Chief Whip and Whips have been completed ahead of the inaugural sitting of the House.
The Chief Whip and the Whips are responsible for maintaining party discipline in Parliament and coordinating the legislative activities of the ruling party.
