
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has appointed Prof Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas of the Urology Department at Dhaka Medical College as the new acting Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The information was announced in a notification issued on Tuesday by the Par-2 branch of the Health Services Division of the ministry. The notice was signed by Joint Secretary Sanjida Sharmin.
According to the notification, Prof Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas, a BCS (Health) cadre officer and professor in the Urology Department at Dhaka Medical College, has been transferred and posted as the acting Director General of the DGHS.
Sources at the ministry said he is expected to assume his duties soon. The DGHS plays a key role in managing government healthcare services, overseeing public health administration, and implementing various national health programs.
The post of Director General at the DGHS had remained vacant since February 29. The new government has now assigned Prof Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas the acting responsibility for the position. He is a member of the executive committee of the Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA).
