A vessel carrying 58,457 metric tonnes of wheat from the United States (US) has arrived at the outer anchorage of Mongla port.
The Food Ministry confirmed the arrival on Wednesday, in an official press release.
The wheat was imported under the government-to-government cash purchase agreement numbered G-to-G-03, signed through a bilateral memorandum of understanding between Bangladesh and the United States.
This is the third consignment under the bilateral wheat procurement arrangement.
Previous shipments under G-to-G-01 and G-to-G-02 have already been delivered in full, bringing 237,845 and 230,039 metric tonnes respectively.
Including the latest arrival, a combined total of 526,341 metric tonnes of American wheat has now reached Bangladesh under the three agreements.
Bangladesh's annual wheat demand is approximately 70 lakh metric tonnes. Domestic production covers only about 10 lakh metric tonnes, with the remaining gap filled through government and private sector imports from international markets.
The Food Ministry said quality testing of wheat samples from the vessel has been completed and necessary arrangements are in place for rapid unloading at the port.
