RAJSHAHI, Mar 17: Former Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Convener Ershad Ali Isha has been appointed the new administrator of the Rajshahi District Council, according to a government notification issued on Sunday. The appointment was confirmed by the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary-1, Zahidul Islam Roni. Officials said the move aims to strengthen local government and accelerate development activities in the district.
Since the BNP-led government took office in February, political figures have been increasingly appointed as administrators across various local government bodies. Earlier appointments include six city corporations on 22 February and five more on 14 March. Ershad Ali Isha's selection follows this pattern, with preference given to locally influential leaders with public engagement.
The announcement of Isha's appointment has sparked excitement among BNP members, affiliated organizations, and the wider public in Rajshahi, with many viewing it as the beginning of a new chapter in the city's politics.
Party sources highlighted Isha's long-standing involvement and dedication in Rajshahi politics, noting his active participation in party movements and programmes even during politically challenging times. Many believe his experience and organizational skills were key factors behind his appointment.
Responding to his appointment, Ershad Ali Isha said, "I accept this responsibility with honour and a sense of duty. I will strive to ensure Rajshahi's overall development, public welfare, and transparent administration. With everyone's cooperation, I hope to make the District Council a more effective institution for the people." He added that rural infrastructure, education, healthcare, transport systems, and public welfare projects would be prioritised, and citizens' opinions would guide development plans.
Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu also congratulated Isha on his new role.
